The blackletter script appears to read -Edwinus Sandes sacrae theologiae de postquam vigornencem Episcopatum annos X totiiemque tribus decoptis Londinencens gessillet Eboracentis sui Arch- so this is certainly the tomb of Edwin Sandys, Archbishop of York, who died 1588. The two shields of Arms are, Or a fess dancetty between three crosses crosslet fitchee gules. and Gules a chevron paly engrailed between three leopards heads or. His weepers are his family. From the right, a woman (the wife), then three men, three boys and two maids. (Photo Jul 2008).
