House. C15 core; remodelled and extended in the early C19. Timber
framed with brick infill and brick rebuilding rendered to the front,
red brick extensions; plain tile roof; brick integral end stacks.
Former 2-bay open hall aligned east-west facing north and
former cross-passage bay to the east. Extensions to the east, on the
same alignment, and to the south, aligned north-south. 2 storeys;
main house to right, extension to the left. Main house has 2 windows,
casements and a door to the left within a slight recess. 2-storey
extension of 2 bays length but only one set of casements, to the right.
Rear: exposed timber framing immediately to the right of the rear wing
with rail at mid-height and curved brace extending from wall-post to
wall-plate. Interior: 2 exposed C15 cross frames in the centre and
at the east end of the former open hall. At first floor level there
are suggestions of a western truss hidden behind the plaster work.
All three roof-trusses are visible in the loft. Both central and
western trusses have heavily jowelled wall-posts and curved braces
extending to the tie beams, the west truss also has curved braces
extending from wall-posts to a rail at eye-level on the ground floor.
The central truss has a chamfered fillet on the front of each wall post
which is continued on the braces and cambered tie beam. Both north,
and south wall-plates survive extending through the 2 main bays and
the cross passage bay to the east. The roof trusses have central
vertical struts and flanking raking struts between tie beam and collar,
clasped purlins and principal rafters which are reduced in width above
the collar to conform to the size of the common rafters, most of which
survive.
