Farm House
II
Former Farm House, built within the shell of a country house of circa 1600,
representing the whole or possibly one cross wing. Built of red brick with
pantile roof. 2 storeys and attic with continuous outshut to west. The south
gable has diapering in a chevron pattern. To the west, 2 external chimney
stacks of circa 1600 to eaves between them, below the eaves, a double dentil
eaves course. String course across stacks at old eaves level. 2 rectangular
shafts and an octagonal shaft of C19, on northern chimney. Moulded brick
kneeler on south parapet gable. Eaves raised and roof pitch lowered in C18
or C19. Facade to east, 4 windows with C18 openings with segmental brick
arches. Casements with glazing bars at 1st floor and sashes with glazing
bars at ground floor levels. To the south evidence of blocked c1600 window
opening with fragments of ovolo window head and brick pediment above. Brick
plinth and corbelled eaves. Evidence of brick pedimemts over inserted C20
window at 1st floor on south elevation. C17 doors and frames. C17 strings
to stairs and associated timber framed partitions off cross passage. C17
stopped and chamfered transverse beams. C17 rubbed brick fireplace on 1st
floor with cambered brick arch with o.g. moulding in earlier opening, cut
to form a chamfered reveal with lugs. C19 roof re-using C17 principal rafters
at a lower pitch.
