Railway viaduct. Completed 1849/50, by Robert Stephenson for York, Newcastle
and Berwick Railway. Rock-faced stone with rock-faced-and-margined rusticated
voussoirs and cut dressings. Nine segmental arches on tall rectangular-plan
piers with sunk arched panels on inner faces, with twin pilasters at each end;
moulded imposts and top cornice. River pier has rounded cutwaters with band
below domed top. Later concrete underpinning to arch soffits, and girder
supports.
The southern part of the viaduct is in Warkworth parish.
