Cottage and outbuilding. Early and mid C18. Limestone rubble with ashlar
dressings and timber-framing with rubble and brick infill; stone-slate
roof. Single range forming the south side of the stable-yard to Denton House.
Cottage is of 2 storeys with an irregular 3-window front of flat-arched
casements (some altered) and a 3-centre arched doorway with keyblock: and
imposts. The wall has a stone eaves-cove. Out building to left has a front
which is timber-framed at first floor. An arched doorway similar to that in
the cottage is now flanked by garage doors. Rubble gable wall to left has a
C16 2-light stone-mullioned window with ovolo-moulded 4-centre arched lights and
a datestone inscribed 1696, both possibly removed from Denton House. The rear
wall of the complete range and the right gable wall are of mid-C18 banded
rubble and ashlar, and the roof is hipped to right with a brick stack.
Interior: Outbuilding has C20 roof structure following a fire. Interior of
cottage not inspected.
