5/5 Wick Farmhouse, western of
21/12/56 pair of gatepiers and attached
wall approx. 60m. to S
(Formerly listed as gatepiers
at Wick Farm)
GV II
Gatepier and attached wall. C18; wall partly earlier. Limestone, Square pier has
been largely rebuilt but retains part of a Corinthian architrave and the base of
a finial. Adjoining wall has a moulded and carved coping which sweeps downwards
before rising to the pier. Rubble wall, with the remains of a steep coping,
returns towards Wick Farmhouse (q,v.) and is probably C17 with an earlier
section of squared rubble. The original cap of the gatepier, with modillion
cornice, survives in the farmyard. Matching gatepier and wall to east (q.v.)
retain more detail.
