House. Early C18. Uncoursed and sarsen chalk rubble; brick quoins; thatched
roof; brick stack. 2-unit lobby-entry plan. 1 1/2-storey, 2-window range.
Timber lintel over original blocked door to left, and over C20 casements; half-
hipped roof; end stack to left. Interior: original beams, chamfered bressumer
over fireplace with cast iron door to bread oven; closed timber-framed truss
with butt purlins, elm floorboards. Late C20 extension to left and to right;
present entry in rear right wall. Cottage named after its association with
Arabella in "Jude the obscure", by Thomas Hardy, 1895.
