Farmhouse. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Roughcast
concealing timber frame with rear part of cross-wing and back wall of hall
range clad or rebuilt in C19 red brick; slate roof. L-plan comprising hall
range of 2 framed bays and 2-bay cross-wing projecting to right; late C17
or early C18 red brick range at right-angles to rear and hall range extended
by one bay to left in early C19. 2 storeys. Late C20 casements, one on
each floor to left of entrance in angle between ranges and one on each floor
to gable of cross-wing. Full-height lean-to porch, probably on site of
original entrance, has C17 nail-studded plank door under C19 gabled hood
and C20 flat-roofed dormer above. Red brick ridge stack to left of hall
range at junction with C19 addition (formerly integral to gable end) has
top rebuilt in C19 brick. Integral lateral stack to right wall of cross-
wing and integral end stack with infilled segmental-headed doorway to left
to rear gabled addition. Interior: timber frame (square panels) exposed
throughout to ground floor including to cross-walls. Front ground-floor
room of cross-wing has chamfered cross-beam ceiling with ogee stops; several
late C17 or C18 panelled doors. Dog-leg staircase to rear right-hand
corner of hall range has carved splat balusters. Double-purlin collar
and tie beam roofs in 2 bays to both hall range and cross-wing with parts
of trusses exposed.
