Farmhouse, now hotel. C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber
framed on high brick plinth with plaster and painted brick infill,
sandstone slate and plain tile roofs. H-plan with cross-wings slightly
projecting to rear. 2 storeys and attics; framing: square and
rectangular panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate with V-struts from
collars to gables; irregular fenestration, mainly C20 casements, one
to attic to left gable and one to first floor and attic to right
gable, C20 casement below eaves to centre with gabled dormer in roof
slope above to left; late C19 canted projection to left has one
sash window with Gothic glazing to first floor and a multi-paned
cast-iron fixed-light window to ground floor; low single-storey
C20 hip-roofed projection to right has 3 casements, one to left
and 2 to right of C20 six-panel door; external lateral brick stack
to right with moulded capping and 2 integral stacks to left. Interior:
much altered in early C19 and mid-C20; right-hand ground floor room has a wooden
fireplace and cornice and frieze to ceiling in a style derived from
Robert Adam. Prominent additions of c.1923 to left are not of special
architectural interest. The site of a motte and barley castle lies
