Gates, gate piers and flanking walls. Circa 1725, by Jones of Wrexham.
Probably restored in the late C19. Pair of grey sandstone ashlar square
piers with red brick panels. Each with moulded plinth, frieze and
moulded cornice and large urn finial with crest. Wrought-iron gates
and standards. Pair of central carriage gates with spearhead dog bars,
dog rails, and top rails, ramped up to centre with scrolled crestings.
Flanking pedestrian gates with spearhead dog bars, dog rails, and
ramped top rail with scrolled crestings. Four standards with scrolled
panels and crestings. Brick quadrant flanking walls with chamfered
copings, ramped up to centre. Square end piers with pyramidal stone
caps. The gates are axially aligned to the south-west (entrance) front
of Peplow Hall (q.v.). B.O.E., p. 226.
