Barn approx. 40 metres to north-west of Shavington Wood Farmhouse

Barn. Circa 1600 with C18 and late C19 alterations. Weatherboarded
timber frame, partly rebuilt with red brick nogging. Left-hand end wall
rebuilt in C18 red brick. Corrugated-iron roof. Framing: small
square panels (three from sole plate to wall plate) with short curved corner
braces. Three framed bays. Three boarded loft doors. Pair of central
ground-floor boarded doors and pair of large boarded doors to left.
Lozenge-shaped vents in ground-floor brickwork. Boarded loft door in
right-hand gable end and two boarded loft doors to rear.
INTERIOR: one cross
frame surviving with sole plate on low brick wall and central post.
Collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts and v-struts. Pairs
of purlins with straight wind braces. C18 brick end wall with pilaster
buttresses and diamond-shaped vents. This barn forms part of an early
farmstead group with Shavington Wood Farmhouse (q.v.).
