Shavington Wood Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Dated 1536 with probably late C16 or early C17 addition,
and C18 and late C19 additions at rear. Timber-framed with plastered
and painted brick infill; left-hand gable end rebuilt in brick painted
to represent framing. Plain tile roof. C19 red brick addition with
slate roof. Framing: first-floor close studding and ground-floor
rectangular panels (two from sole plate to first floor level) with short
straight corner braces. Addition with large square panels (2 from
sole plate to wall plate). Two framed bays with c.1600 addition to south-
west of one framed bay. One storey and attic. North-west front:
brick ridge stack off-centre to left and brick lateral stack at rear
to right. Three large timber-framed gabled eaves dormers with 3-light
wooden-framed metal casements. Central gable dated: "AD 1536".
Two-window front; C20 three-light wooden casements to left. Boarded door
off-centre to right with moulded architrave and late C19 timber framed
gabled porch. Right-hand gable end: slightly jettied first floor
with moulded bressumer and jettied gable with shaped end brackets.
Gable rebuilt above collar in painted C19 brick. 3-light wooden attic
casement and late C19 ground-floor square bay with 1-:3-:1- light small-paned wooden casements,
bracketed eaves and hipped tile roof. C18 and C19 gabled brick wings at rear with brick stack
in valley.

INTERIOR: central ground-floor room with ovolo-moulded
ceiling beam (running front to back); large open fireplace has chamfered
wooden lintel with ogee stops. Right-hand ground-floor room with chamfered
ceiling beam (running front to back). 2-panelled door of c.1700 in
left-hand ground-floor room with H-L hinges. Right-hand cross wall
with angle braces and collar and tie-beam roof truss with v-struts.
Tie beams cut to make doorway (now blocked). Left-hand cross wall
(former external wall) with close studding and jettied gable with chamfered
tie-beam and collar. Left-hand bay with staggered purlins and wind
braces. Right-hand bay with chamfered purlins. C18 rear wing with
C18 king-post truss.
