3/155 The Mill
- II
Former watermill and mill house. Late C18, with C19 and C20 extensions. Local stone rubble, coursed; plain clay tile
roofs with plain gables; brick chimney stacks. Main block 3 storeys; 2-bay south elevation. Rectangular leaded casement
windows of 4 lights, with added 2-light windows to match on ground floor, mostly under timber lintols, but in small
raked dormer at second floor: entrance door at first floor level, between bays; boarded door in heavy frame, approached
by winding stone staircase with stone sidewall: 2-storey, 2-bay extension to west, with 2-light leaded windows. Further
extensions to rear, and on east gable a late C20 wing at right angles, to match. Interior not seen. Mill was
waterpowered, and a wheel, cast iron, about 2 metres diameter now mounted decoratively in the garden, still turned by
one of the millstreams. Generally a picturesque group, with the central building an interesting survival.
