Farmhouse. Mid-late C18 with mid-late C19 addition to rear; renovations of
1981. Red brick with pantile roof. L-shaped on plan: 3-room south front
with entrance hall to right, contemporary outshut to rear left and C19
outshut adjoining in angle. 2 storeys with attic, 5 bays, with 3-bay
symmetrical entrance front to right. 2 stone steps to entrance. C20
replacement doorcase with pilasters, fluted below, panelled above, carrying
entablature with guilloche fret ornament to frieze, and modillioned cornice;
6-fielded-panel door and fanlight in panelled reveal. Flanking bays have
20-pane ground-floor sashes in flush wooden architraves with sills and
segmental stretcher arches; to left, a small single-light pantry window and
16-pane sash in similar surround. First floor: 12-pane sashes to second and
fourth bays, 20-pane sashes to remainder, with similar arches and reveals.
All windows C20 replacements. Stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice.
Modillioned gutter. Tumbled-in brick to raised gables. Axial and end
stacks. Left and right returns have 12-pane sliding sashes to gables.
Rear: early section has board door flanked by 12-pane flush sashes beneath
segmental arches, C19 section has chamfered segmental arched entrance with
recessed board door, small gabled dormer above; 12-pane flush sashes to main
range beneath segmental stretcher arches. Interior: open well staircase
with corniced handrail, plain newels and replacement plain balusters; late
C18 wooden chimney-piece to ground floor right with fluted panel to frieze
and dentilled cornice; small original dentilled wooden chimney-piece and
ornate duck's nest grate to first floor centre left; fielded panel window
shutters, reveals, doors in architraves to main rooms. Renovations revealed
wall paintings (now papered over) in some rooms, including imitation
panelling with ornate surround to ground floor right, ornate scrolled
foliage to first-floor bedroom.
