Pair of terrace houses with shops. c,1800 rebuild with mid C19 shops, partly altered.
Stock brick, concealed roof. 4 storeys. Each 2 windows wide with narrow recessed
party wall panel. On ground floor No 23 has mid C19 shop front with square headed
house doorway with fanlight to left, shop front and small display window to right
with main one to left all edged by colonette shafts, transoms and quadrant corners to
top lights, entablature-fascia. No 23A has altered shop front with plain square
headed house door to left. Upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes under flat
gauged arches. Parapet with coping. Included for group interest in this street of
principally early C19 houses, originally built as part of the 1630s Bedford Estate
development of Covent Garden.
