House, now two cottages. C15 and C16. Timber framed with
colourwashed brick noggings, thatched roof. Single storey and
attic, 2 1/2 bays with 2-bay cross wing at east end. Originally lobby
entry in half bay. Lower end two cruck bays with exposed full
crucks on gable end, the wall plate and purlins notched into back
of blades. Apex type F3. Lighter timber framing below collar.
Side framing 3 panels high, the central section raised, with corner
braces and flush dormer. Cross wing contains parlour on south side
with main chamber over, and kitchen on north. Timber casement
windows, with two C20 dormers on north. Some windows have reused
moulded canted oriel window heads.
Interior: central bay has large chalkstone fireplace with ovens
and moulded fire beam, and a chamfered spine beam. Main parlour
has moulded cross beams with stops, and blocked fireplace. Chamber
over kitchen has long curved windbraces, absent in main chamber.
Stair altered, but in approximate original position within lobby
entry. Roof half hipped and 3-flue ribbed brick stack.
