A pair of houses in matching style, probably originally one
house. Early-to-mid C19 with a C15/C16 core. White brick
front; rendered north gable; slate roof in 2 parallel ranges
with a wide modillion eaves soffit at the front; partly
timber-framed interior.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellars. 4 window range, all sashes:
12-pane in flush cased frames to the top storey, the remainder
without glazing-bars in shallow reveals with stone sills.
Raised stucco bands run between the storeys. 2 6-panel doors
with plain rectangular fanlights and wood doorcases,
No.115 with plain Tuscan pilasters and cornice, No.116 with
fluted engaged columns, triglyph frieze and cornice. The rear
wall is rendered and lined; sash windows in flush cased
frames: 3 on the 2nd storey and 5 on the 1st storey, mainly
12-pane, but 3 with a single vertical glazing-bar.
INTERIOR: the division into 2 is very irregular, with No.116
the larger house. During restoration in 1991 one bay with
heavy flat unchamfered joists was uncovered within the
entrance hall but is now covered. The timber frame extends
into the adjoining bay where there is a boxed and moulded main
beam. The remaining features within No.116 are all of the
early C19.
A large drawing room, formerly with an adjoining ante-room,
extends across the whole of the back range on the 1st storey.
The stair has moulded newels, stick balusters and a ramped and
wreathed handrail. Interior of No.115 not inspected.
