GV II
Nonconformist chapel. Early C19, with mid C19 additions forming Sunday School to
rear. Late C19 one-storey lean-to addition across front. Flemish bond brick with
moulded rendered cornice and embattled parapet; return sides have moulded brick
cornice. Slate hipped roof. Simple Gothick style. 2 storeys; 1-1-1 bays. Gothic
style addition has slightly projecting central porch; moulded brick arched
doorway has moulded rendered hood mould and double-leaf plank doors. Rendered
coped gable parapet has kneelers and moulded terracotta roundel. Left and right
bays have moulded terracotta corbel table. Each bay has 3 small straight-headed
windows with single rendered lintel of blind depressed ogee arch, and sill.
First floor has slightly projecting centre. Pointed arched iron windows
throughout have Gothick glazing, brick arches and rendered sills. 3-bay return
sides. Left return side has small 2-storey addition at right angles. Plank door
and irregular fenestration. Right return side has buttress of 4 offsets. 2-bay
range beyond has 3-light and 2-light wood mullioned and transomed windows with
horizontal glazing bars and brick segmental arches. Brick lateral stack.
Interior has gallery on cast iron columns to 3 sides, canted across the angles;
mid/late C19 panelled front has diagonal boarding, Fourth side has upper recess
with large opening of cusped lancets and spandrels and slender shafts. Moulded
cornice and ceiling rose. Included for group value.
