Terrace of late C17 weavers houses, Nos 5 to 18 (consec) having been
partly rebuilt in recent years. The houses are mostly 2 storeys with
attics in gables. Some gables have blocked oval windows. Windows generally
are 2- and 3-light casements, some with plain, some with moulded, stone
mullions. Plain square-headed doorways. No 1 has weathered strings over
ground-floor windows, and 2 doors set together in centre. Nos 2 and 3
have some sash windows, and an original rectangular dripmould. No 4 has
sash windows without glazing bars. Weathered strings and plinth. Nos
5 to 9 (consec) have 3 storeys. Modern pantiled roofs with eaves, except
No 8 which has a gable. Weathered strings. Some sashes without glazing
bars. Nos 10 to 12 (consec) have modern pantiled roofs, weathered strings,
and some sashes with glazing bars. No 10 has a semi-circular hollow stone
hood on scroll brackets over door. Nos 13 to 18 (consec) have 3 storeys.
Modern pantiled roofs and weathered strings. Doorways of Nos 14 and
15 have flat stone hoods on cut stone brackets. No 18 has flat hood on
curved brackets over door. There has been some extensive rebuilding but
the character has been maintained. Of great townscape value.
