House, now offices. Mid C19, with the remains of a C17 rear
range. Red brick; slate roof with a wood modillion eaves
cornice.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellar. 4 window range: all sashes,
with single vertical glazing bars in plain reveals, stucco
flat arches with keystones, and projecting stone sills. A
raised stucco band runs at 1st storey window-sill level. A
semicircular doorway with a recessed inner arch, both moulded,
has plain reveals. A footscraper on each side in the angle
between the inner and outer arch. 4-panelled door, the top 2
panels sunk, with applied moulded surrounds and a plain
fanlight.
INTERIOR: a small mainly C19 cellar below part of front. The
main range of the house appears all of the C19: a winder stair
rises to the attic storey with stick balusters, wreathed
handrail and unusually large newel posts. To the right of the
entrance the remains of plaster ceiling decoration in a
now-divided room. On the upper storey a front and a rear room
have walls with raised wood surrounds to plaster panels.
At the rear, a high single-storey room has an ornate plaster
cornice and centre-piece to the ceiling. A narrow C17
timber-framed wing at the back is enveloped in C20 extensions
but has one ovolo-moulded main beam exposed on the ground
storey.
