19.3.87 Hoptons Manor
GV II
House. C15, clad c.1698 and extended 1938. Timber framed and clad with
painted brick and flint and tile hanging. Plain tiled roof. End jettied
hall house plan, extended (to south) C15. Two storeys and hipped roof,
with returned hipped wing to right, and stacks to centre and rear right.
Two wooden casements on each floor to left, with central gabled porch,
with 1 wooden casement on first floor to right, and 2 on ground floor
with boarded door in outshot. Interior: frame visible, with jetty, arched
braces and plinth visible within outshot on main elevation. Roof raised
and altered c.1800. Later framed addition, possibly with crown post roof,
subsequently altered. Large inglenook fireplaces. (Present interior
wall to 1938 extension C17 flintwork (stack dated 1698). Manorial site,
belonging to St. Radegund's Abbey, seat of locally notable family of
Hopton.
