1/121 Curwen Hill Farmhouse and barn
4-10-1967 adjoining to north-west -
II
House, mid C18th, with barn early C19th with early C18th remains. Squared
sandstone with stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Windows, of 3 lights,
have stone surrounds with a slight chamfer and flat-faced mullions. The
door, between bays, has a plain stone surround and a flagstone hood on
brackets. Above is an illegible plaque. Chimney on right-hand gable. The
barn, to the riqht, has a lower tile roof. Its wide entrance has a
segmental arch with a keystone inscribed: '1718'. To the left and right
are doors with long-and short jambs. At the left is a window with plain
reveals, with a similar pitching hole above. Inside, the roof trusses have
collars and tie beams, some of the latter being of softwood. Quoins at the
left of the facade, and the inscribed date, suggest that the barn is older
than the house, but the tooling of the stonework and the softwood tie
beams suqgest a C19th rebuilding.
