SD 56 SW CATON-WITH-LITTLEDALE THE CROFT

4.10.1967 (facing north-east to Lane)
(Formerly listed as The Croft)

GV II

House, late C17th. Slobbered rubble with slate roof. 2 storeys with attic, 2
bays. Windows rebated and chamfered. To the left on the ground floor is a
long window with 2 mullions remaining. Above is one formerly of 2 lights now
with the mullion removed. To the right on the 1st floor is a 3-light
mullioned window. The ground floor window surround has been reconstructed.
The door, between bays, has a chamfered surround. Chimney on left-hand gable,
with a cap carried on stone corbels, and at right. A bay further to the right
is a modern addition in keeping. The left-hand gable wall, which continues
the facade of Greenfield Cottage (facing south) (q.v.), has 2 one-light attic
windows and a one-light ground-floor window, all of C17th type. Interior.
The left-hand room has 2 chamfered main ceiling joists, one with pyramid
stops. In the attic are 2 trusses with curved principals.
