SD 837 523

1/115 Paa Farmhouse
16-11-1954
- II

House, late C17th. Pebbledashed rubble with worn sandstone dressings
and stone slate roof. Double-pile plan with central 2-storey gabled
porch. 2 storeys, with one bay on each side of the porch. Windows
mullioned, with outer chamfer and inner ovolo moulding. Those on
the 1st floor are of 3 lights. Those on the ground floor have hoods,
the left-hand one being of 4 lights, the right-hand one being similar
but now having its central mullion missing. The 1st floor of the porch
oversails on a moulded string and has a stepped 3-light window with
hood. The door surround is cyma moulded with an elliptical arched head.
At the left of the lintel 'R' is inscribed: it is badly worn but is said
by the tenant to have had the date '1671'. Gable chimneys, the right-
hand (east) stack projecting with offsets. The rear wall has mullioned
windows. Inside, the left-hand front room has a wide fireplace with
chamfered jambs and a modern timber lintel. Set into its left-hand
side is a bread oven. The Provisional list describes a fireplace
inscribed: 'RAD 1692' in the right-hand room, now removed.
