Farmhouse, early and late C17, altered in C18, now 2 dwellings. Brick
walls (painted white) on high stone base, quoins to ½ height, red tiled
roof with a chimney on the ridge and 2 gable chimneys. T-shaped: 3-bay
3-storey house with a single bay 2-storey wing to rear of 2nd bay, which
appears older. South front now has 2 modern doors (in 2nd and 3rd bays),
and on ground and 1st floors 3 large 9-paned windows with splayed brick
heads, and on 2nd floor 3 low 3-light casements. Right end of 1st floor
has inset stone carved in relief "OSKELL". Left end wall has blocked
SoMNER
1st floor door formerly approached by stone steps. Rear of 1st bay has
old lean-to dairy; 3rd bay has 2-storey outshut; and the 2-storey rear
wing, (recently rebuilt on the east side) has a west wall of old thin
bricks. Water tabling on chimney and in rear wall indicate formerly
thatched roof. Interior: rear wing has a ¼-round moulded beam and
blocked inglenook hearth and at 1st floor junction a timber-framed truss;
main range has ovolo-moulded beams, bressummer to former inglenook; some
timber-framed partition walls including one in dairy incorporating an
arched doorway.
