This picture has been in our family for some time. My mother was a friend of the artist, Sydney Prentice, who practised dentistry in Wigan. He was also a keen walker and climber, who painted landscapes around Wigan, and later in his beloved Lake District, when he retired to Ambleside.
I can only estimate the date of the picture from my sketchy knowledge of the artist's history.
