Signal box. 1877 on Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Wigan to Southport line, which was opened in 1855. Brick and timber with hipped slate roof.
Rectangular plan. Base and north wall of brick. 3 low windows on south
side with segmental arches. 2 rows of glazing above, the upper row including horizontal sashes. Curved eaves brackets. External timber steps on east side. Chimney to north. This is a Saxby and Farmer Type 9 box. It was fitted with a new locking frame in 1983.
