Belvoir Angel Headstone to Rachel Freeman d1719, St James Churchyard, Burton Lazars

Uploader's Comments

Headstone carved from Swithland slate from the workshop of a local craftsman, probably based at Hickling, and active between about 1700 and 1750. The style is distinctive and examples are found throughout the Vale of Belvoir. Round faced wide winged angel with simplified Hourglass and crossbones and -As runs the glass our lives do pass-. Here Lyeth the Body of Rachel the wife of Philip Freeman who departed this life January the 27th Anno Salutis 1719 Anno Aetatis Suae 34. (Photo Sept 2015).
