A rarity: The Royal Arms of King William III as a king in his own right (1694 - 1702), after the death of co-ruler Queen Mary II. The 1st and 4th quarters are the Lilies of France quartered with the Lions of England. 2nd quarter is the Lion of Scotland. 3rd quarter is the Harp of Ireland. The centre shield ('inescutcheon') is the gold Lion on a blue field with lozenges representing Nassau, his royal house. A beautiful painting on panel. (Photo Oct 2007).
