Main farm building at College Farm

Stables and teashop, built to house cows and ancillary dairy functions 1883, designed
by Frederick Chancellor. Red brick, some tile hanging, steeply pitched pantiled roof
to eaves. Double courtyard plan . Symmetrical composition of 11 main bays. Queen
Anne style. Single storeyed except to centre and slightly projecting end bays which
have 2 storeys and gables. 2 intermediate gables to carriageways. Tile hanging to
upper storey of outer bays; mock timber framing and stucco to central bay, which
crowned by ogee domed lantern with weathervane. Main entrance to centre (C20 doors ).
Square headed windows and stable doors. Some timber mullions and transoms; casements,
glazing bars. College Farm was the model dairy farm of George Barham of the Express
Dairy Co Ltd who pioneered the transportation of milk by train to London. (Believed
to have been London's first Tuberculin Tested dairy.)
