Town mansion, 1876 by J. T. Wimperis for Charles Magniac. Yellow stock
brick with lavish stone dressings. Slate roof. Beaux Arts and Renaissance
detailing. 4 storeys, basement and steep dormered mansard. 6 windows
wide with 2 window return to Curzon Street. Off centre entrance with
broad pilastered portico with columns in antis, arcaded 3 light loggia
over, flanked by canted bay windows with sash lights and pilaster
mullions. Channelled ground floor with architrave framed windows and
similar to upper floors, all flat arched except for top floor where they
have semicircular arches. Return has a 2 storey portico to right hand and
to left a canted bay with pilastered sash lights and pediment over 2nd floor.
Dentil cornice to 1st floor, plat band to 3rd and bracketed top cornice
with balustraded parapet; stone dormers, segmental pedimented above bay
windows. Continuous cast iron balcony on stone brackets to 1st floor.
Ornate cast iron area railings. Interior, graceful curved cantilevered stone
staircase with patterned cast iron balustrade. Decoration early C20. On
1st floor two sumptuously Rococo rooms, one L-shaped, the ceiling panels
decorated with mythological scenes. Two similar but plainer rooms on
ground floor. Marble bolection moulded doorframes.
