Workmen's Institute, now Library. 1879-80 for James Sadler.
Squared coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, slate roof.
3 storeys, 3 bays with gabled 3-storey front wing containing
entrance and stair, and caretaker's dwelling attached to rear.
Door in front wing under carved canopy or columns. Windows with
cambered moulded heads and timber paned frames. Stair gable has
quatrefoils with stone from former school house on site xxxxx by
Miriam Stevens, M. STEVENS, 1779 and J.S. & A.M.S. 1879. Clock
face in pediment. Right end has large ground floor bow window.
Bell turret with timber balustrade and wind vane. Building
occupies an important pivotal point in the centre of Purton.
