Farmhouse. Late C16 with C17 additions to right, and late C17 additions to rear
(VCH); partly refaced and altered C18/C19; C20 alterations. Timber framed: close
studding, square framing and ornamental panelling with lath and plaster and
whitewashed brick infill. Largely rebuilt or refaced in whitewashed brick; some
roughcast. Old tile roof; brick internal, ridge and end stacks. Complex plan.
Main range one storey and attic, wing 2 storeys; 3-window range. Main range has
central entrance with late C20 half-glazed door and open timber and tiled porch.
Second entrance to right has plank door and tile hood. Former door, now window,
in re-entrant angle. Irregular fenestration: one C19 casement, and C20 leaded
lights. Gabled half-dormer. Central stack of thin bricks has 2 shafts with
V-pilasters. End stack. Far-projecting wing on left. Jettied first floor
underbuilt in roughcast brick. First floor has herringbone framing; gable has
ornamental panelling, with roughcast infill. C19 three-light wood mullioned and
transomed windows with painted latticed lights. Return sides have close studding
and small 2-light wood mullioned leaded window. Right side has internal stack
with C19 shaft. Left return side has C18 staircase projection, and some square
framing beyond. Right return side of main range has framed gable. To rear: Some
exposed framing. Gables. Interior: Exposed framing. Queen post roofs. 2 rooms in
left range have C16 fireplaces with chamfered stone lintels. One room has C16
stud partition opened up into adjoining room having open fireplace with
chamfered bressumer. Stop chamfered ceiling beams and joists. Flagstone floors.
Kitchen has open fireplace. Small early mid C18 quarter tarn staircase with
turned balusters and some early C18 panelling. Winder and straight flight
staircases with old boards. First floor room in left wing has early/mid C18
panelling with simple pilasters flanking simple stone chimneypiece. Room with
C18 panelled dado, Cheese room has composition floor. Old plank doors with strap
hinges and C18 fielded 2- and 4-panelled doors with H and H-L hinges throughout.
