School hall and classroom blocks. 1877-1881 by R H Carpenter in Gothic style. Built
of knapped flint with Sussex sandstone dressings and tiled roofs. Central large hall
with clerestorey and gabled roof flanked by classroom blocks having 5 gables to each
side, 2 storeys to east and 1 storey to west. East elevation 1st floor has 10 windows
with paired trefoliated heads and quatrefoil motif in interstices with oculus between
each pair of windows. Sandstone coping and saddiestones, band above windows and diamond-
shaped decorative friezes near apex of gables. Ground floor has pointed arched openings
to arcade. Behind are paired windows with Caernarvon arches and plank doors. West
elevation has 10 windows with paired trefoliated heads and quatrefoil motif in interstice
with oculus between each pair of windows and similar sandstone dressings. Each side has
4 massive 2 tier clerestorey windows with trefoliated heads, quatrefoil motifs and
buttresses under decorated half-hipped gables with iron finials. Cresting to roof
ridge. Interior of Great Hall has boarded oak roof with structure of crown post type,
panelled walls and end gallery.
