Low Farmhouse
II
Former farmhouse. C16, part possibly with earlier core. Timber framed, part
roughcast-rendered, part plastered. Plaintiled roof. 2 storeys. Gable
facing road has jettied upper floor, the original brackets partly visible, and
an overhanging gable with moulded tie beam carried on original curved
brackets. Small 2-light casement windows of C20 date. One small gabled
dormer to each side at the north end. To the west, a lobby entrance with C19
colourwashed brick gabled porch and 4-panel door, the upper panels glazed.
Internal stack with mid C20 red brick shaft. One-storey lean-to on north
gable end. Modernised interior, most of the structure concealed. Small
ground floor room to north of stack has a fully moulded axial bridging beam
and further moulded beams at each end; the beam at the outside gable end is
particularly richly moulded and may be a bridging beam, the remainder of the
room lost. This end of the house may be earlier than the remainder. Roof not
examined.
