Church of St Mary Wiston

A small Norman church of the C11 with a nave and apsidal chancel. At
the west end there is a small timber-framed and weatherboarded belfry
with a pyramid roof. Restored and altered in 1853. The Church is now
faced with cement. The south door has an C11 arch enriched with lattice
ornamentation in the tympanum and a single order of shafts with chevron
and spiral ornamentation. The chancel has a fine C11 arch with chevron
ornamentation and 1 order of shafts with spiral and lattice ornamentation.
The east window has ornamented shafts and an arch with chevron ornamentation
and the sanctuary has a cross vault with carved boss. The interior has
a cycle of C13 wall paintings much of which survives. The font is C15,
octagonal with figures and shields. Graded for its historical interest
and interior features.
