Small country house. 1872-4 by RN Shaw, divided in 2 mid C20. Brick in English
bond stone dressings, some tilehanging on 1st floor, half-timber gables and
parts of 1st floor, moulded brick stacks, plain tile roof. Asymmetrical composition
in Domestic Revival style, 2 storey and 4 section main block with projecting 2½
storey porch wing, long service range of 1½ storey at one end, and projecting
large single storey Billiard Room in front of end bay at other. Entrance front
has approx. central projecting porch wing having pointed 4-order door way and
small 2-light mullioned window, on 1st floor large canted oriel having 4-lights
on front and mullioned and transomed, then covered cornice to gable with 4-light
attic window. To LH projecting low corridor with pair of 5-light mullioned and
transomed windows under hipped roof, above tilehanging and pair of thin
5-light mullioned windows under eaves. In front of LH bay large single storey
projecting rectangular Billiard room, with no window to front and parapet.
Behind it, tilehung 1st floor with 4-light mullioned and transomed window under
gable. To RH of porch thin bay of 2½ storeys with 2-light window on each floor,
and then 1½ storey, 5 window range of service quarters, with gabled bay near
centre. Large external stack at LH end, ridge stack to LH of porch wing, and
corbelled 1st floor stack on RH side of this wing. Ridge stacks on service wing.
Garden front and interior largely complete. House divided with service range
and main rooms behind porch as one part, and porch wing and rest of main house
as other.
