Description

BRADNINCH

1175/0/10011 HEN STREET
28-JAN-03 (West side)
Raised pavement, steps, ramps and atta
ched conduit on west side of street

GV II

Raised pavement and integral conduit, steps and ramps. Probably C18 and C19 with earlier origins. Stone rubble revetment with dressed stone coping and steps and cobbled surface partly replaced with concrete setts. The raised pavement runs for about 100 metres on the west side of Hen Street and incorporates a stream conduit and steps and ramps down to the lower street level.
Although the exposed masonry might date from the C18 and C19 the origin of this raised pavement is probably earlier and it makes an important contribution to the townscape of Bradninch.
