House. C16 with c1800 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Part timber-
framed with rendered infill, part coursed limestone rubble on chamfered lime-
stone ashlar base; machine-tiled roof, half-hipped at west end. Two-and-a-half
bays aligned east/west with external chimneys to rear of central and east bay
with tall brick stacks. Single storey, attic with dormers and cellar; the
west bay has a string course at attic level. Framing: exposed at east end
with two rows of close-set studding, long straight braces in lower corners
and a collar and tie-beam truss with close-set struts. South front elevation:
ground floor has two 2-light casements with plank weatherings and, to the
left, there is a C20 stone mullioned window of two lights; central gabled
dormer with 2-light casement. The central entrance has a C20 gabled porch on
timber posts and a glazed C20 door. To the left of the entrance is a fire
insurance mark. Attic lights in gable ends. A lean-to C19 and C20 addition
with catslide roof encloses the rear chimneys. Interior: original roof structure
survives. There are two large fireplaces and in the east bay is a winder stair-
case which divides into two to provide access to the central bay. The building
was once used as a butcher's shop.
