House. C16 open hall house, inserted floor and chimney late C16,
renovated and rear bakehouse C18. Timberframe on stuccoed sill roughcast
with dark weatherboarding at front and E end. Steep old red tile roof.
Corrugated sheet roof to weatherboarded bakehouse. A small, 2 storeys
and loft, 2 windows wide house facing S with internal chimney backing
onto cross-passage, and single-storey rear bakehouse at NW. The house
represents the hall, cross-passage, and storeyed service end of a late
medieval house, presumably extending further W. The inserted hall
fireplace, backing onto the cross-passage has elaborate late C16 moulded
lintol and a heavy chamfered cross-beam with hollow stops suggests the
inserted floor at higher level than in E part which has an axial beam
and squared joists at 2 levels, the upper for a loft with external E
access. The front has 2 2-light flush casement windows with small panes
on each floor, a boarded door with lean-to slated hood, and shaped ends
to rafters. Exposed timbers inside with jowled posts and heavy cambered
tie-beams with curved braces in open truss of hall, each member
chamfered. Large brick oven in bakehouse. Stair against rear wall beside
chimney. 2 moulded plank doors with decorative iron strap hinges.
