House, now 2 houses. C16 former open hall house with storeyed E
crosswing, inserted floor and chimney in hall and W part rebuilt C17.
Timber frame on stuccoed brick sill, frame exposed with plastered infill
panels, W part roughcast. Steep old red tile roofs. A 2-storeys, T-plan
building set back from road facing N with projecting E wing extended to
E by a catslide roofed E outshut. Narrower, lower W part. Projecting
gabled porch in angle with E wing and opposed door at rear mark
cross-entry. Chimney shaft of large internal chimney rises to rear of
roof ridge, with elongated cruciform shaft. Flush casement windows.
Wide-panel framing to hall range. Prominent curved tension braces
exposed in gables of cross-wing. Interior has jowled posts, cranked
tension braces to hall partition, long straight tension braces to hall
walls and curved wind-braces to clasped-purlin roof. Floor over hall
carried on axial beam. (Pevsner (1977)148: RCHM Typescript).
