5/11 Home Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Dated 1786, with C19 addition to rear. Probably for Pepper
family. Brown brick in Flemish bond. Concrete tile roof. L-shaped on
plan: 2-room central entrance-hall west front, kitchen wing to rear right
with contemporary outshut in angle and later extension to rear. 2 storeys
with attic, 3 bays; symmetrical. Step to moulded 6-fielded-panel door
beneath fluted frieze, cornice and plain fanlight in cyma moulded architrave
with painted brick arch. C19 4-pane sashes in original flush wooden
architraves with projecting sills and stucco flat arches. Stepped eaves.
Stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers. Corniced end stacks. Right
return, rear wing, has 6-fielded-panel door beneath segmental arch, single
wide 6-pane sash in flush wooden architrave beneath cambered arch, similar
first-floor window beneath segmental arch, attic hatch with board door to
front range. Front right and rear gable ends bear tie bars 17 and 86.
Front left bears initials: R P (first initial damaged, possibly P
or B). Interior contains original staircase with column balusters, marble
chimney-piece, ribbed cornice, fielded-panel doors and window shutters in
architraves; not fully investigated.
