1903-04, architect W H Bidlake. A very large church akin to an East Anglian
Perpendicular wool church. Very high quality use of stone and brick, so
typical of Bidlakes attention to detail. Pale red brick with stone dressings
and fully handled subtly varied perpendicular tracery. Aisles, lofty clerestory
to nave, crossing and handsome north west tower and pierced parapet. Internally
buff brick is used with stonework for the arcades, an entirely monochrome
effect, but fresco work over the south east arch of the south arcade indicates
the intention of a much more extensive decorative scheme. Six bay lofty arcade
with clustered piers. Highly individual and imaginative treatment of the
clerestory with slight internal canting of the 2 light windows and free
standing central shaft. Brick infilled lierne vault to apsidal chancel. At
the west end in the south corner is an immersion font with simple wrought iron
ground rail. The nave waggon roof has alternate hammer beam trusses.
