II


Farmhouse; C17, minor alterations C19. Brick-nogged timber
framing, on brick plinth, 2 panels high per floor: random-rubble
base in part. Painted brick extension. Tiled roofs. 2-bay main
block, 2½ storeys, extended single-storey bay at end, l-bay wing at
right angles, 1½ storeys. Boarded front door in corner under
lean-to open porch, up 4 stone steps and quarter landing. Turned
balusters to porch front, on low wall, scalloped bargeboard over
entrance: cambered brick arch to doorway. Two-light casement
window to right, weatherboard over. Single-storey brick wing set
back slightly beyond gable: boarded door with exposed framing.
On left of door side of 1½-storey wing; two-light casement window,
weatherboard over. Below cambered head in plinth to boarded door
to cellar, down stone steps. Retaining wall runs off corner:
gable on left, 3-light casement, weatherboard, one storey-height
stone wall to farmyard below. First floor: 2-light casement
window to right of front door: short braces main posts to
wallplate. Three-light casement in gable of lower wing cuts tie
beam: braces to corner posts: wide verge. Left return large
projecting chimney, brick stack above eaves. Two gabled dormers
to main block, 2-light casements, scalloped bargeboards. Right
return braces main posts to tie beam, V-struts above collar.
