Tabernacle House
II
Large detached house. c.1770. Fine brick facade, rubble returns and back, rough
rendered. Hipped roof with internal valley, all stone slate. Two storeys, plus
dormers. Three, windowed. facade, large 'venetian' windows with brick voussoirs and
arches plus stone key, central window arched with same sashes with glazing bars and
uncusped tracery. Panelled door, square fanlight with semi-circular tracery flat,
hood on brackets, wood. Stone rusticated quoins and stone string. Modillion
cornice. Original small dormers, two with original leaded glazing. Large three light
sashes with glazing bars in flank walls. Was Rowland Hill's summer residence; abuts
his Chapel (now rebuilt: Tabernacle Chapel q.v.).
