Former large country house, now private business concern.
Originally an C18 house enlarged c1919-25 by the re-erection of
most of Hams Hall (from near Birmingham), during which period
Ernest Barnsley worked on the house. Ashlar-faced on plinth,
hipped slate roofs, scattered ashlar stacks with moulded cornices,
moulded stone dentil course and parapet. Large range in rough U-
shape, mostly 2 storeys. Main front to south west has 7 windows,
12-pane sashes in moulded stone frames, the centre three under a
triangular pediment with cornice breaking forward and framed by 4
giant attached Ionic columns on tall pedestals and bases. Ground
floor has two 12-pane sashes on each side of central motif, with
moulded stone architraves, pulvinated frieze and straight cornice.
Twelve-pane sashes flanking central door each have triangular
pediment in place of straight cornice. Door of 10 fielded panels
has moulded stone architrave, reeded pulvinated frieze and
triangular pediment. Across front of central motif is deep
platform with 3 steps up. Secondary front to south east has large
2-storey canted bays at each end with cornice and blocking course
below main dentil cornice. Small 16-pane sash to each face on
first floor of bays, large 12-pane on ground floor. Central door
with triangular pediment, reeded frieze and decorative flat
consoles, flanked by 12-pane sashes.
Interior retains some original fireplaces and fine stick baluster
stair in main hall.
