House, at one time divided into three cottages. Medieval, extended
C17, substantially renovated mid C20. Limestone rubble; concrete
tile roof; stacks restored C20 with dressed stone quoins and brick
stacks. Rectangular (or possibly 'L'-shaped) medieval range
running east - west probably with the parlour at the east end with
hall to the west; C17 extension at right angles running south
gives an 'L'-shaped over all plan. 1 1/2 storeys. South front of
medieval range with projecting lateral stack at centre; C20 four-
light casement with glazing bars to the left C20 three-light
hipped roof dormer above; C20 three-light casement to the right of
the stack at first floor level. C20 part-glazed door below
(inserted C20); gablet with C19 three-light casement to the first
floor, similar 2-light casement to the ground floor. Traces of
possible former gable-end stack at the west gable end, which was
formerly more steeply pitched. Fragments of stonework with carved
spandrels built into the north-wall of the medieval range.
Evidence of possible blocked doorway to the upper floor of the
north facing gable; small blocked window to the east facing gable.
Two-light C20 casements to the ground floor of the C17 range on the
west; C20 three-light half dormer with raking roof to the first
floor. C20 casements and doorways to the rear wall of the C17
range; two C20 two-light stone-mullioned casements to the gable
end facing the road. Projecting lateral stack; gable-end and
axial stacks. Base of possible circular stone stack on axis of the
medieval range.
Interior: flat-chamfered pointed stone doorway towards the east
end of the medieval range. Fireplace with flat-chamfered stone
surround and a deep dressed stone lintel (similar fireplace to the
projecting stack now removed and lintel reused as garden seat).
Upper floor: upper cruck roof of 3 bays (probably reconstructed in
the C16 or early c17) to the hall range, now with ceilings inserted
below. Late medieval fireplace with jamb stones with double flat
chamfers with runout stops at the top; deep dressed stone lintel
supporting a stone slab canopy in the room at the west end of the
hall range. Roof of the north-south range containing evidence of
early roof trusses with flat-chamfered bracing to the collar beams.
