5/13 Barn and open-fronted cartshed,
c40m south of Manor Farmhouse
(formerly listed as one of two barns
23.1.52
with Manor Farmhouse)
GV II
Barn and open-fronted cartshed. Probably built at same time as
Manor Farmhouse (q.v.). Late C17-early C18. Coursed squared and
dressed limestone with large quoins. Stone slate roof. Barn at
southern end of range. Rectangular plan to barn with projecting
porch on the east side flanked by 2-bay lean-tos (formerly open-
sided with bays divided by single stone monoliths at front).
Cartshed at north gable end. Barn; double plank doors to porch.
Pitching window above. Global insurance plaque on lintel of
pitching window. Low segmental-headed double doorway with plank
door in wall opposite porch. Tall ventilation slits in both side
walls. Large circular ventilation hole at the south gable end
within a square dressed stone surround with a ventilation slit
above. Two courses of pigeon holes below the eaves on the west
side.
Interior; 5 bays with C20 roof trusses with raking struts. Brick
threshing floor. Five-bay open-fronted cartshed, single cylindral
stone columns with imposts supporting a continuous timber lintel.
Barn sited in such a way than when viewed from the south together
with the stableblock (q.v.) it 'frames' the facade of Manor
Farmhouse.
