Garden element. c.1750, possibly by Thomas Robins. Squared and coursed lime-
stone, some remains of red paint or plaster, earth covered roof. A deep alcove
set into the hillside, with pointed arch under a frieze and battlements which
return c.1 m at each end as a balustrade to a garden outlook. The alcove is
about 2.5 m deep and wide to a flat back wall, and, beyond the outer wall is
flanked each side by damaged remains of good cut stone sides. Overall height
c4.5 m. Remains of one of a group of garden buildings in an important surviving
rococo ensemble.
