8/353 Birmingham House
GV II
House and shop. Early C19 but probably earlier roof structure. Coursed and
squared dressed stone, stone slate roof. A long building returning on a curve
to St Mary's Street. Two storeys, 1 + 3 windows: at ground floor are 3 former
12-pane sashes, now without horizontal glazing bars and, on curve, a C19 shop
front with pilasters, shallow fascia with cornice and stall riser all in stone.
Large 12-pane casements flank a C20 glazed door between wide chamfered pilas-
ters. To right a 12-pane sash. At first floor are two 16-pane and two 12-pane
sashes, one of these centred over shop front. Between bays 2 and 3 a 6-panel
C19 door under a cornice on consoles. Towards the left gable, a large rebuilt
stack. This has probably been two or more properties originally; it holds an
important corner, taken generously on the curve.
